Lakers Win Against Pelicans with Strong Performance from All Five Starters
The Los Angeles Lakers secured a hard-fought victory against the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday night, winning 110-101 at Crypto.com Arena. The Lakers, now holding a record of 37-24, approached the game with caution, knowing the Pelicans had recently notched four wins in their last five outings, despite arriving with a record of 19-43.
Luka Doncic led the Lakers with a strong performance, scoring 27 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing out seven assists, although his shooting was less than stellar at 10-for-22 from the field. LeBron James contributed 21 points and seven assists but also faced challenges with ball control, recording five turnovers.
Austin Reaves added 15 points and managed eight rebounds, despite a shooting struggle of four-for-15. Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart further bolstered the Lakers’ effort, posting 13 points and 10 points, respectively, with Smart showcasing his defensive prowess by securing four steals.
Although the Lakers displayed offensive strength, they struggled with turnovers, racking up 20 through the first three quarters. They notably addressed this issue in the fourth, committing only a single turnover, a 24-second violation while managing the game clock.
Frustrations boiled over for the Lakers, as both Doncic and Luke Kennard received technical fouls, alongside Ayton, who was penalized in the fourth quarter for a foul against Williamson. Coach JJ Redick emphasized the challenge posed by the Pelicans, who were eager to compete for a play-in spot. “They want to be in the play-in, and everybody loves playing the Lakers here, so it’s going to be a tough game,” Redick stated.
The game was tightly contested, with the Lakers trailing 78-76 at the end of the third quarter after a series of turnovers totaling 10 in that period. However, when the Lakers refocused on their fundamentals, they delivered some memorable highlights. A standout moment occurred when James, after a brief slip, managed to secure a lob from Smart and completed a powerful dunk while being fouled.
As the Lakers push forward in their quest for consistency, the win against a determined Pelicans team serves as a reminder that each game remains crucial as the season progresses.
