Lakers Struggle with Injuries and Drop Two Games in a Row
Lakers Struggle Despite Reaves’ Return in Loss to Suns
In their recent matchup, the Los Angeles Lakers faced a daunting challenge, suffering a 132-108 defeat against the Phoenix Suns at the Mortgage Matchup Center. The loss marked a low point for the Lakers’ defense, which allowed a season-high 59% shooting percentage from the field.
Austin Reaves made his return from a left calf strain that had kept him out for three games, but his presence did little to alleviate the team’s defensive shortcomings. Reaves, who finished with 17 points, two assists, and three turnovers, came off the bench for the first time in two seasons.
“It’s like we’re stuck in mud,” said Lakers head coach JJ Redick, lamenting the team’s stagnant movement on the court. The Lakers managed to stay competitive within the Western Conference, holding a 19-9 record, but their recent performances raise questions as they head into a pivotal holiday game against the Houston Rockets.
In an attempt to combat injuries, LeBron James led scoring for the Lakers with 23 points, while Deandre Ayton posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The team’s struggles against the Suns continued, as they fell to a 1-2 record this season against them.
Looking ahead, the Lakers are set to confront their mounting challenges with a critical Christmas Day matchup approaching.
