Lakers’ Luka Doncic Splits from Fiancée After Challenges with Family Visa Plans
Doncic Ends Engagement Amid Parenting Challenges
Luka Doncic, the star player for the Los Angeles Lakers, has confirmed he has ended his engagement to Anamaria Goltes, citing difficulties in balancing parenting with his professional commitments. The couple, who began dating as teenagers in Slovenia, had been engaged since July 2023.
In a statement to The Associated Press, Doncic expressed his love for his two young daughters and emphasized his desire to have them with him in the U.S. during the basketball season. "I love my daughters more than anything and I’ve been doing everything I can for them to be with me in the U.S. during the season, but that hasn’t been possible, so I recently made the tough decision to end my engagement," Doncic stated. "Everything I do is for my daughters’ happiness, and I will always fight to be with them and give them the best life I can."
TMZ reported on Tuesday that Goltes filed a petition for child support and attorneys’ fees in California, further spotlighting the couple’s split. Doncic and Goltes welcomed their daughters, Gabriela in November 2023 and Olivia in December 2025. Doncic notably missed two Lakers games to support Goltes during Olivia’s birth, describing the experience as a "roller coaster."
As speculation surrounding their relationship intensified, Goltes removed all photos of the couple from her Instagram account last week.
Doncic’s transition from the Dallas Mavericks to the Lakers in a high-profile trade for Anthony Davis in February 2025 marked a significant chapter in his career. He signed a lucrative three-year contract extension worth $165 million last summer, solidifying his place in Los Angeles.
Despite the personal upheaval, Doncic has continued to excel on the court, currently averaging 32.5 points per game, making him the NBA’s leading scorer this season. In a recent game against Minnesota, he recorded his 89th career triple-double, contributing 31 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists to secure a 120-106 victory for the Lakers, propelling them into fourth place in the Western Conference standings.
While Doncic navigates this challenging period in his personal life, his performance remains a focal point of the Lakers’ season.
