LACMA and Hyundai Extend Their Collaboration Together Until 2037
Los Angeles County Museum of Art Extends Partnership with Hyundai Motor Company
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) has announced the extension of its partnership with Hyundai Motor Company through 2037. This collaboration, initiated in 2015, is regarded as the most significant programmatic commitment from a corporate partner in LACMA’s history, producing eight major exhibitions over the last decade.
Michael Govan, LACMA’s CEO and Wallis Annenberg Director, expressed enthusiasm for the continuation of this partnership. “The long-term generative partnership between Hyundai Motor and LACMA has produced meaningful exhibitions, new acquisitions, scholarship, and incredible opportunities for emerging artists and technologists," he stated. Govan also emphasized that this announcement underscores both organizations’ commitment to advancing artistic innovation and fostering global dialogue.
Notable exhibitions resulting from this partnership include Random International’s “Rain Room” and “Tavares Strachan: The Day Tomorrow Began,” which is currently on display until March 29.
As part of the renewed collaboration, a new exhibition titled “Hyundai Project” will be featured in the coming years. In 2028, LACMA will showcase a survey of an artist with connections to Los Angeles and the Pan Pacific region. This artist will create a large-scale banner that will be installed on the exterior of the Broad Contemporary Art Museum approximately one year prior to the exhibition’s opening, which will also come with an in-depth catalogue.
“Hyundai Motor’s partnership with LACMA was founded upon a shared vision to explore the convergence of art and technology, and to foster new discoveries in Korean art,” said Euisun Chung, Executive Chair of Hyundai Motor Group. He added that the company is committed to enhancing access to this innovative collaboration and fostering vibrant cross-cultural dialogue.
In addition to exhibitions, Hyundai Motor has supported LACMA’s Art + Technology Lab, sustaining its operations and grants program, which has led to 45 artist projects. The renewed partnership will broaden the lab’s scope and impact, initiating new grant cycles every two years starting in 2026. A Biennial Symposium is also set to launch in 2027.
This month, LACMA will release a publication titled “LACMA Art + Technology Lab, 2014–2025,” celebrating the achievements of the first decade of this initiative.
The Art + Tech Lab has issued its 2026 Request for Proposals for artist projects with available awards of up to $50,000, alongside in-kind support from the museum and private partners in technology and science. Applications are due by April 22 at 11:59 p.m. PT.
