Labrinth Shares Why He Departed from ‘Euphoria’ and Stood Up for Himself
In the wake of comments from creator Sam Levinson regarding the exit of composer Euphoria‘s music director, Labrinth is clarifying his position once again.
As anticipation builds for the Season 3 premiere of the HBO series on Sunday at 9pm ET/PT, the British musician criticized certain Hollywood figures for their dishonesty, stating he departed the series to maintain his self-respect. “I wouldn’t let people treat me like shit,” he said.
In a post on Instagram, Labrinth notably remarked, “People will comfortably lie in this industry and still call themselves honest people. So no cap, I decided to remove whatever music I had in it. I spoke to HBO, as far as I know, we are cool. I left because, last truth, when I work for someone, their vision is paramount to me. But I don’t let people treat me like shit.”
Labrinth’s recent remarks follow a since-deleted post from last month in which he expressed his discontent with the industry, declaring he was “done with this industry” and using stark language: “Fuck Columbia. Double fuck Euphoria. I’m out. Thank you and good night.”

Having replaced Labrinth with Hans Zimmer for Season 3, Levinson has acknowledged Labrinth’s contributions, referring to him as an “incredible collaborator.” He added that he was uncertain why Labrinth left the series after two seasons, emphasizing that the musician laid “the foundation of the sound of Euphoria.”
Levinson elaborated on his vision for the series, saying, “On Euphoria, each character’s storyline is like its own film in a way. In general, I was less interested in needle drops and more interested in something that guided us through this world…. They’re out of high school, so the pop roots of it have faded away. I see them in these landscapes, dealing with good and evil, the choices you make, the consequences, and the freedom of being older. How I imagined it visually, I wanted to lean into an old-fashioned Hollywood Western score.”
Labrinth has been integral to the show’s score since its inception, with his song “All for Us” winning the Emmy for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics. HBO previously announced that Labrinth would collaborate with Zimmer to score the third season.
