Labrinth Shares His Thoughts on the Music Industry: Why Authenticity Matters

Labrinth has once again taken to Instagram to express his frustrations with the music industry. In a post shared on Tuesday, March 17, the artist, known for his song “All for Us,” voiced his discontent with the current state of musical artistry and business practices.
“WE HOVER AROUND BIG STARS HOPING TO BE IN THEIR PLACE ONE DAY LIKE SNAKES,” Labrinth stated emphatically, emphasizing the cutthroat nature of the industry. He likened emerging artists to “wolves of Wall Street,” suggesting that meaningful relationships in music are often sacrificed for greater opportunities.
As he critiqued the industry, Labrinth posed a provocative question: “WHO THE F— SAID THIS IS NORMAL OR OK TO TURN WHAT I CALL GODS NOISE (our music) INTO BUSINESS TRANSACTIONS?” He concluded his message with a stark declaration: “I DONT SUBSCRIBE.”
In the post’s caption, Labrinth elaborated on his quest for “meaningful interactions,” expressing his disdain for using others or being used in return. “Fake ain’t a good business plan,” he remarked.
Though Labrinth may reject the prevailing attitudes within the music business, many industry peers appear to resonate with his sentiments. Shortly after his post went live, he attracted support from fellow artists. Singer India.Arie commented, “We have all felt this! I really feel you,” while former Fifth Harmony member Lauren Jauregui shared three speaking head emojis in agreement.
Dove Cameron noted, “I genuinely think about this every day.” Fans also rallied around Labrinth, expressing concern and solidarity, inquiring about who had wronged him, and affirming their support and love.
This isn’t the first time Labrinth has aired his grievances regarding the music industry in recent days. On Friday, he criticized both his record label and HBO’s series *Euphoria* in a now-deleted post that read, “I’M DONE WITH THIS INDUSTRY / F–K COLUMBIA / DOUBLE F–K EUPHORIA / I’M OUT.”
The motivations behind Labrinth’s recent outbursts remain unclear. The British singer and producer released his fourth studio album, *Cosmic Opera: Act I*, in January, marking his second project under Columbia Records, where he has been signed since 2019. He has served as the lead score producer for *Euphoria* since its inception and is gearing up for the upcoming Season 3, set to premiere on April 12. Recently, he hinted at new music for the show in another now-deleted post.
Before his tenure with *Euphoria* and Columbia, Labrinth was with Simon Cowell’s Syco label, where he released two albums. Since his debut in 2010, he has achieved seven songs on the Billboard Hot 100, including a collaboration featuring *Euphoria* star Zendaya.
