La La Anthony and Kim Kardashian Collaborate on New Comedy for Hulu as Their ‘Group Chat’ Pilot is Canceled
Hulu Drops "Group Chat" Amid New Project for La La Anthony and Kim Kardashian
Hulu has announced it will not proceed with the development of Group Chat, a comedy pilot featuring La La Anthony, who also served as an executive producer. The project was co-written by Kenya Barris and executive produced by Kim Kardashian.
Despite the cancellation, Kardashian and Anthony are collaborating on a new comedy series, produced by Tracy Oliver, known for her work on Girls Trip. The pair are poised to bring fresh comedic content to Hulu, with Anthony likely to take on the lead role.
The untitled series follows a crisis manager for professional athletes—a role designated for Anthony—whose life is thrown into disarray by her husband’s scandal. She must rely on three steadfast friends as they navigate relationships, careers, motherhood, and the complexities of starting over.
The studio behind the upcoming series is 20th Television, where Kardashian holds a first-look deal.
Group Chat, loosely inspired by Anthony’s bestselling book, The Love Playbook: Rules for Love, Sex, and Happiness, focused on six successful women in their forties living in Los Angeles. The cast included Yaya DaCosta, Melanie Liburd, Rebecca Rittenhouse, and Stephanie Suganami, all under the production of 20th Television.
Tracy Oliver, who has also written films such as Little, The Sun Is Also a Star, and The Blackening, is developing sequels for Girls Trip and The Blackening, as well as The Wedding Date for Netflix and Deck The Y’Alls, featuring Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain. She is represented by CAA, Artists First, and Myman Greenspan.
La La Anthony gained fame for her role on Starz’s Power, and has had recurring appearances on BMF and The Chi. Her literary contributions include The Love Playbook and its follow-up, The Power Playbook. She is represented by Linden Entertainment, WME, and Sloane, Offer, Weber, and Dern.
Kim Kardashian recently concluded work on the Netflix comedy film The Fifth Wheel, which she both produces and stars in. She also executive produces the Hulu legal drama series All’s Fair, set to return for a second season. In addition, Kardashian is producing the family’s Hulu series The Kardashians, the upcoming Paramount+ reality series Team Moms, and is developing a scripted series titled Calabasas for Netflix, along with a live-action film based on the Bratz franchise at Amazon MGM Studios. She is represented by WME.
