LA County Alerts Residents About Water Safety Following Rainfall
Rain Advisory Issued for Los Angeles County Beaches
Beachgoers in Los Angeles County are strongly advised to refrain from water activities this Sunday, particularly near storm drains, creeks, and rivers, following light rainfall that could lead to elevated bacteria levels.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has issued an Ocean Water Quality Rain Advisory, effective until at least 5 a.m. on Wednesday. This advisory encompasses any runoff that may reach the beach sand.
The department warned that "ocean and bay recreational waters, especially near discharging storm drains, creeks and rivers can be contaminated with bacteria, chemicals, debris, trash and other public health hazards from city streets and mountain areas after a rain fall." They emphasized that individuals entering the water in these regions may face health risks. Notably, rain advisories remain in effect for 72 hours following the cessation of rainfall.
For ongoing updates on beach conditions, the public can access recorded information through a 24-hour hotline at 800-525-5662.
