Krys Marshall Shares Exciting Updates on ‘Toy Story 5’, Reflects on ‘Paradise’ Finale, and Previews Season 3: We’re Getting Ready!
Krys Marshall Joins ‘Toy Story 5’
Krys Marshall, known for her roles in For All Mankind and Paradise, is set to join the cast of Toy Story 5, directed by Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton, a two-time Oscar winner who played a pivotal role in establishing the beloved franchise.
Marshall first collaborated with Stanton while working on For All Mankind, where he frequently directed episodes. “We got on like a house on fire. I adore Andrew,” she stated in a recent interview. Reflecting on her journey, she shared, “Since working with him, I had a kid, and now I’m watching kid content. When I heard at D23 that Toy Story 5 was coming back and that Andrew would direct, I shot him an email. It was an ultimate try-hard kind of message, and after nine months of silence, I received an email saying, ‘You have an offer for Toy Story 5.’”
Although Marshall has experience providing additional voices in films such as Black Panther, this marks her first significant role in an animated feature. She expressed her views on the film’s themes, stating, “We’re all guilty of having our noses pointed into our phones… It’s heartbreaking that you miss so much in real life. The story beautifully highlights the aging toys and the encroachment of technology, yet I believe human imagination will always prevail.”
Marshall expressed gratitude for her involvement in Toy Story 5, which is set to premiere in theaters on June 19, more than three decades after the original film. She recalled being shown a video clip of Andrew’s first session with Tom Hanks for the character of Woody, reflecting on her childhood love for the Toy Story movies. “To get to have a part in it and participate in this childhood history of mine is just too cool,” she said.
Intense Moments in Paradise
In the explosive season finale of Paradise on Hulu, Marshall’s character, Agent Nicole Robinson, faced life-threatening danger. “Dan is both so wonderful to work with and also terrifying,” she noted, emphasizing the unpredictability of her character’s fate in the series. As the finale unfolded, Marshall was anxious about her character’s survival, especially as she read scenes hinting at her character’s demise.
Despite previous tensions, a pivotal moment saw Jeremy Bradford, played by Charlie Evans, coming to her rescue—highlighting their complex relationship. “In normal circumstances, they would have absolutely nothing in common,” Marshall reflected.
She elaborated on the intricacies of Robinson’s relationships and how her past with the murdered President Cal Bradford continues to shape her character. “What’s really beautiful about Paradise is that even though Cal is dead, we see what their relationship meant for both of them," Marshall explained.
Looking Ahead to Season 3
As preparations for Paradise‘s third season begin, Marshall has read the initial scripts and hinted at an anarchistic path for Robinson. “In Season 1, she believed in the rule of law, but that’s changing,” Marshall detailed. “We see her become disillusioned with systemic corruption, shedding her formality and becoming even more badass.”
Updates on For All Mankind
Marshall also confirmed her return for For All Mankind‘s fifth season, where she continues her role as NASA Commander Danielle Poole. "I won’t say what episode I’m in, but I loved playing Danielle Poole. I still love playing her.”
With exciting developments in both Toy Story 5 and Paradise, Marshall’s career continues to flourish in captivating narratives that resonate with both childhood wonder and complex adult themes.
