Koreatown Attack Haunts Man Months Later: Addressing Fear and Safety Concerns
Maintenance Manager Attacked in Koreatown, Victim Still Living in Fear
LOS ANGELES – A brutal assault on a maintenance manager in Koreatown, captured by security cameras, has left the victim in a state of ongoing fear months after the incident.
William Perez, the maintenance manager, described the attack, which occurred in April, explaining that not all the suspects are currently in custody. He stated, "I came to open my garage and there were these people drinking. They all live on the property. I started walking around saying please don’t hurt me, I just want to get into my parking garage. They wanted to beat me up right away, and I was like I’m going to call the police."
Despite his call for help, Perez noted that police did not arrive at the scene. He later took the footage to the police station the following day, where he provided it to detectives.
In November, seven months later, the LAPD asked Perez to identify the suspects from a photo lineup. While he was unable to do so, he recognized the attackers from the video and directed detectives to their residences, stating, "I told them I know where they live, I know who they are. We live in the same building."
The LAPD informed FOX 11 that the case was reclassified to a misdemeanor due to the non-extensive nature of Perez’s injuries. However, in September, several suspects were identified, and formal charges were filed against one of them. Perez expressed disappointment that not all of the attackers were held accountable, remarking, "It’s hard for me to go to bed every night and be afraid someone is going to kick my door. To be honest, I always hide from them because I am scared."
As the investigation unfolds, the community remains watchful, reflecting on the safety and wellbeing of its residents.
