King Charles Reflects on the Environment in His Early Speech from Over 50 Years Ago in New Amazon Documentary
EXCLUSIVE: Newly surfaced footage reveals a 21-year-old King Charles III, then known simply as Prince Charles, delivering a passionate speech on environmental conservation. This early address highlights what would become one of his most significant endeavors: advocating for the environment.
The archival footage, dating back over 50 years, is part of Prime Video’s upcoming documentary, Finding Harmony: A King’s Vision, which is set to premiere on Friday, narrated by actress Kate Winslet.
In the footage, a youthful Charles passionately addresses an audience about the “horrifying effects of pollution in all its cancerous forms” and the “growing menace of oil pollution at sea.” At the time, such discussions about environmental issues were uncommon, as noted by Winslet in her narration.
In a poignant moment from the clip, King Charles III reflects, saying, “I remember being profoundly concerned about all this.”
This documentary reveals how The King’s Foundation, based at Dumfries House in Ayrshire, Scotland, has ignited a global movement for ‘Harmony.’ It chronicles the foundation’s work in sustainable textiles, food production, urbanism, community regeneration, and traditional skills, illustrating how their model has inspired similar projects worldwide.
The documentary premiered last week at Windsor Castle, attended by the King and Queen, along with notable figures such as Winslet, Judi Dench, and David Attenborough. The release comes at a time when Amazon documentaries have gained attention, particularly following the debate surrounding the controversial Melania film.
