Kiernan Shipka and Cole Sprouse Star in Gulfstream Pictures’ Romantic Comedy ‘Goodbye Girl’ for Amazon MGM
Kiernan Shipka and Cole Sprouse to Star in Upcoming Romantic Comedy "Goodbye Girl"
Kiernan Shipka and Cole Sprouse have been announced as the leads in "Goodbye Girl," an upcoming romantic comedy produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Gulfstream Pictures. Filming is set to begin this week in New Orleans.
Directed by Oran Zegman, known for his previous work on the Paramount+ film "Honor Society," "Goodbye Girl" centers on Jess (played by Shipka), a professional heartbreaker. The plot takes a twist when Jess is hired by a nervous bride to break up with her fiancé, played by Sprouse, just days before their wedding. However, complications arise as Jess unexpectedly falls in love.
The screenplay for "Goodbye Girl" was penned by Danielle Hoover and David Monahan, based on their story alongside Jessica Elbaum. Production is supported by Mike Karz and William Bindley of Gulfstream, who serve as producers, along with Dawn Bierschwal and Ryan Lewis from The RAD Lab and Daniel Wagner.
Expressing enthusiasm for the project, Gulfstream executives Karz and Bindley stated, “GOODBYE GIRL is exactly the kind of elevated, character-driven romantic comedy we love to champion at Gulfstream. Kiernan and Cole bring incredible charm, wit, and emotional honesty to these roles, and Oran has such a fresh, confident voice as a director. This film is smart, funny, and heartfelt, and we are excited to be working with Dawn and Ryan and the rest of our stellar creative team.”
Kiernan Shipka is currently featured in the fourth season of HBO Max’s "Industry" and will soon appear in "The Shitheads," a comedy alongside Dave Franco and O’Shea Jackson Jr. that recently premiered at Sundance. She has also been recognized for her roles in several films, including "Longlegs," "Totally Killer," and the critically acclaimed "The Last Showgirl."
Meanwhile, Cole Sprouse is set to star alongside Matthew McConaughey in "The Rivals of Amziah King," a crime thriller that debuted at last year’s SXSW Film Festival. His past credits include "Five Feet Apart," "Lisa Frankenstein," and "Moonshot."
"Goodbye Girl" marks the fifth title from Gulfstream to be picked up by Amazon MGM. The studio’s upcoming projects include "Pretty Lethal," featuring a star-studded cast including Uma Thurman; "Upgraded," with Camila Mendes; "The Other Zoey," starring Josephine Langford; and "One Fast Move," featuring KJ Apa and Maia Reficco. Additionally, Gulfstream is producing "Honeymoon with Harry," starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Kevin Costner, for Amazon MGM.
Zegman is represented by UTA, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, while Hoover and Monahan are represented by Rothman Brecher Ehrich Livingston and Paul Hastings.
