“Me and Miguel Castro, the actor who plays Magnet, we’re very close,” Thomas said. “He’s a big community guy. He’s constantly giving back. He is constantly doing really cool things for the city of Los Angeles.”
Sharing a glimpse of their friendship, Thomas added, “I was in Orlando, and he FaceTimes me. He’ll do that. He won’t tell me, but he’ll just FaceTime me. When he FaceTimes me, I know he’s at a school. You’ll just hear the kids go crazy. Me and Miguel Castro are partners in crime.”

Castro portrayed one of the boys at the fictional Camp Green Lake, alongside Thomas’s character Zero in Holes, which is based on Louis Sachar’s 1998 novel. The film, directed by Andrew Davis, also featured renowned actors such as Shia LaBeouf, Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight, Patricia Arquette, and Eartha Kitt.
Sachar’s narrative centers on Stanley Yelnats, played by LaBeouf, who is unjustly convicted of theft and sent to a desert detention center, where he and a group of boys must dig holes each day under strict supervision. As the boys bond in their shared experiences, the actors similarly grew close during filming.

Thomas later shared a photo of their meeting on Instagram, captioning it: “22 years TODAY Holes hit the big screen. And on the anniversary, I stood across from The Warden herself, the legendary Sigourney Weaver. No shovel in hand, just a heart full of gratitude.” He described the moment as “surreal.”
In addition to reconnecting with his past, Thomas recently collaborated with Froot Loops, engaging in a campaign celebrating the over 1,000 Hip-Hop references to the cereal in songs.
