Khandi Alexander Joins the Cast of Abbott Elementary for Season 5
Khandi Alexander Joins ABC’s Abbott Elementary in Recurring Role
In an exciting development for fans, Khandi Alexander, known for her roles in Scandal and Treme, is set to return to ABC in a recurring role on the network’s acclaimed comedy series, Abbott Elementary.
Alexander will make her debut in the episode titled “Mall Part 3: Heroes,” scheduled to air on Wednesday, January 21, at 8:30 p.m. PT/ET. Specifics about her character have yet to be disclosed.
Produced by Warner Bros. Television and 20th Television, Abbott Elementary focuses on the challenges faced by teachers at an underfunded public school in Philadelphia. The series is led by Quinta Brunson, who plays Janine Teagues, alongside Tyler James Williams as Gregory Eddie, Janelle James as Ava Coleman, Chris Perfetti as Jacob Hill, Lisa Ann Walter as Melissa Schemmenti, William Stanford Davis as Mr. Johnson, and Sheryl Lee Ralph as Barbara Howard.
The series has garnered significant acclaim, receiving 30 Emmy nominations and four wins, including Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Brunson in 2023, and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy for Ralph in 2022. It has also been recognized in the Critics’ Choice Awards, Golden Globes, GLAAD Awards, and NAACP Image Awards.
Brunson serves as an executive producer alongside Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker of Delicious Non-Sequitur Productions, Randall Einhorn, and Brian Rubenstein.
Alexander boasts an impressive resume, including her Emmy-nominated performance as Maya Lewis in Scandal. She also received a Critics’ Choice nomination for her role in the HBO film Bessie, sharing the screen with Queen Latifah. In addition to her work in Treme, Alexander starred as Alexx Woods in CBS’s CSI: Miami, appearing in 145 episodes.
Her film credits include There’s Something About Mary, MGM’s Dark Blue featuring Kurt Russell and Brendan Gleeson, and Patriots Day, in which she starred alongside Mark Wahlberg. Alexander is represented by Buchwald, Untitled Entertainment, and Greenberg Traurig.
