Kent Alterman and Sarah Babineau’s Good Walk Entertainment Partners with Sony Pictures Television for Exciting New Projects
Good Walk Entertainment Enters First-Look Deal with Sony Pictures Television
Good Walk Entertainment, founded by former Comedy Central executives Kent Alterman and Sarah Babineau, has secured a first-look deal with Sony Pictures Television. This partnership will enable the duo to develop and produce scripted comedy and drama series for the independent studio.
The agreement will see the initiation of three projects, including comedies in collaboration with writer Jessi Klein, who is currently under an overall deal with Sony TV, and writer Aadrita Mukerji, alongside a drama directed by Jonathan Krisel.
Alterman, who dedicated two decades to Comedy Central, eventually rising to the position of President, left the network in November 2019 following the CBS-Viacom merger. Babineau, who was one of Alterman’s key allies and served as co-head of original content, departed at the end of 2020 after six years.
Upon their exit, the pair established Good Walk Entertainment, which initially held a first-look deal with FX. In a departure from the humorous tone typical of his previous press releases, Alterman, alongside Babineau, issued a more business-oriented statement regarding their new arrangement with Sony TV.
“We are thrilled to partner with Katherine Pope and her smart, thoughtful teams in comedy and drama, and feel flattered to be amongst the high-level talent relationships they have in their tent,” they stated. “We believe that together we will be able to deliver the kind of high-quality, character-driven, big-idea shows that audiences are truly clamoring for.”
During their tenures at Comedy Central, Alterman and Babineau were instrumental in the development of notable series such as South Park, Inside Amy Schumer, Key & Peele, Kroll Show, Nathan For You, Broad City, Drunk History, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Awkwafina is Nora From Queens, The Other Two, and South Side.
Katherine Pope, President of Sony Pictures Television Studios, praised Alterman’s keen eye for groundbreaking comedy, highlighting his long history of nurturing emerging talent. “Together with Sarah, whose deep creative instincts and genuine passion match his at every turn, the two of them couldn’t be a more perfect addition to our Sony Family,” she remarked.
Between his two tenures at Comedy Central, Alterman held an overall film deal with Fox Film Studios and served as Executive Vice President at New Line Cinema, contributing to films such as Elf, A History of Violence, Little Children, and Semi-Pro, which he directed and executive produced. Babineau previously worked at Amazon Studios, where she helped launch its first slate of original programming, including Transparent and Mozart in the Jungle.
While both executives have extensive experience in drama, their core expertise lies in comedy. Despite Sony Television’s recent focus on drama, following a shift away from live-action comedy, the studio is gradually rebuilding its comedy portfolio. Current projects include the live-action series Platonic at Apple TV and Twisted Metal at Peacock, along with several other initiatives in development.
Good Walk Entertainment’s existing development slate encompasses television and film projects across multiple platforms, including FX, Prime Video, Fox, and Warner Bros. Animation. The company is also collaborating on international projects with New Metric Media, which made an equity investment in Good Walk last fall.
