Kendra Wilkinson Speaks Out Against Ageism and Double Standards for Women
Kendra Wilkinson Addresses Critics of Aging: A Call for Change in Perceptions
Former Playboy model Kendra Wilkinson is speaking out against critics who have commented on her aging, arguing that such remarks reveal a stark double standard in societal expectations for women. In a recent event at TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, Wilkinson, 40, emphasized that women are often subjected to harsher scrutiny regarding their appearance as they grow older.
"I feel like it’s unfair that I get called out. I mean, we all get called out. All of us women," she remarked on March 11. "More women than men get called out for aging and I think that’s the truth."
Wilkinson, who rose to fame through her relationship with the late Hugh Hefner and her role on The Girls Next Door, expressed frustration over the notion that women are expected to remain perpetually youthful. “We’re trapped. We’re supposed to be 21 forever or something,” she told TMZ following her appearance.
The reality star now juggles her responsibilities as a mother and a real estate agent while advocating for a more enlightened perspective on aging. She shares two children, Hank Jr., 16, and Alijah, 11, with ex-husband Hank Baskett.
Wilkinson further stated, “We have to start really breaking that stigma down and really start to make progress in our minds about aging women.” She pointed to Hollywood’s pervasive ageism as a critical issue that needs addressing.
When questioned about the societal pressure for women to defy aging, Wilkinson speculated it could stem from the adult film industry, linking it to unrealistic standards of sexual appeal. “It all has to do with sexual satisfaction. Sexual fantasies,” she explained.
Reflecting on her journey since her Playboy days, Wilkinson shared that she has developed resilience against negative comments regarding her appearance. She mentioned, “If you don’t like to look at me, don’t follow me,” addressing those who criticize her transformation.
Despite the backlash, Wilkinson embraces her current life phase, remarking that she feels healthier and content than ever. “I feel the best I’ve ever felt in my entire life right now and I’m bigger. I’m older,” she humorously added.
Support from peers has been notable; Crystal Harris, Hefner’s wife from 2012 until his death in 2017, praised Wilkinson on Instagram, saying, “Cheers to those who grow and move on to the life waiting for us.” Additionally, former Playboy bunny Jessica Hall commended Wilkinson for her beauty at every life stage.
Through her candidness, Wilkinson aims not only to defend herself against age-related criticism but also to ignite a broader conversation about how society perceives aging and beauty, advocating for a mindset shift that values women’s experiences over unrealistic standards.
