Kelly Rutherford Embraces Luxury and Minimalism in New Fragrance Launch
In the bustling streets of New York City, actress Kelly Rutherford appears to be thriving nearly a decade after her iconic role on "Gossip Girl." The minimalist yet luxurious aesthetic she portrays both in her personal style and in her character, Lily van der Woodsen, continues to resonate with fans.
"I’ve always been very much a minimalist in many ways, but I like beautiful things," Rutherford stated in a recent interview. She attributes her appreciation for elegance to her extensive experience in acting, where she often plays dress-up.
Rutherford recently launched a new perfume, "Rose Première," in collaboration with her longtime friend, Veronique Gabai. This fragrance combines notes of mandarin, bergamot, musk, and rose, encapsulating "the divine feminine," according to Rutherford. "We went to Grasse last year and picked the roses. I got up really early in the morning because they bloom first in the South of France," she recalled.
The actress believes that the scent reflects both her and her character. "It’s a combination of the two of us," she explained, suggesting that Lily van der Woodsen would undoubtedly embrace this chic fragrance.
In addition to her new perfume, Rutherford shared insights into her beauty routine, which includes her fondness for products like Merit’s The Minimalist Complexion Stick, praised for its versatility. She also recommended French drugstore staples such as Avène’s Haute Protection Tinted Compact for summer use, highlighting its tinted formula combined with sunscreen.
Expressing her appreciation for both affordable beauty items and luxury brands, Rutherford said, "I’m a fan of Hermès," and she has even earned the nickname "Birkin mom" on social media due to her passion for the luxury brand. Her personal collection has inspired some of the looks on "Gossip Girl," particularly during a time when sourcing designer items was challenging.
Reflecting on her history with the show, Rutherford remarked, "At the time, there was no RealReal or Vestiaire. With certain things, you just couldn’t find them everywhere like you can today. So I just pulled in a few of my things here and there."
As many fans revisit "Gossip Girl," Rutherford continues to appreciate the show’s timeless fashion. "It was years ago, and it’s still pretty relevant," she said, acknowledging the continued resonance of her character’s stylish outfits.
Rutherford encourages embracing personal style, stating, "There really are no mistakes. Fashion is one of those beautiful things that just keeps evolving as you do."
