Kelly Hu Stars Alongside Eric Bana in New Netflix Series ‘Untamed’
Kelly Hu Joins Cast of Netflix’s ‘Untamed’ for Season Two
Actress Kelly Hu has been added to the recurring cast of Netflix’s drama series Untamed, produced by Warner Bros. Television and John Wells Productions. Known for her roles in BMF and Finding O’Hana, Hu will portray Awapuhi, a character with deep connections to Hawaii.
Untamed, created by Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith, centers on Kyle Turner (Eric Bana), a special agent for the National Parks Service. The series unfolds as Turner investigates a brutal death that leads him to uncover dark secrets lurking both in the park’s wilderness and in his past.
In its second season, the story takes a new turn as Turner is called to investigate a mysterious death in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park. The investigation is further complicated by local tensions and the park’s unpredictable landscape.
Hu’s character, Awapuhi, is a native of the Big Island who returns home after battling her own demons, including the tragic loss of her son. This profound personal struggle sets the stage for her character’s development throughout the season.
Joining Hu in the cast is Shea Whigham, who will play Ray Burkart, a man with a complicated past and questionable businesses on the Big Island. Following the tragic loss of his son, Burkart will have a significant conflict with Turner as they seek justice.
Unlike the first season, which was filmed in British Columbia, Season Two will be filmed in Hawaii, maintaining the six-episode format. Production is set to commence in the spring.
Executive producers for Untamed include Mark L. Smith, Elle Smith, Bana, John Wells, and Erin Jontow, among others.
Hu gained fame for her roles as Lady Deathstrike in the X-Men series and The Sorceress in The Scorpion King. More recently, she starred as Detective Veronica Jin in the hit series Black Mafia Family and had a role in East New York alongside Jimmy Smits.
Her previous film credits include Netflix’s Finding ‘Ohana and Lifetime’s List of a Lifetime, with numerous TV roles in productions such as LA’s Finest, Arrow, and The Orville. Hu is represented by Artium Talent and managed by Mainstay Entertainment.
