Kelly Clarkson recently provided a heartfelt update regarding her family following the death of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock.
In a fan Q&A shared on the official Kelly Clarkson Show YouTube channel, the 43-year-old singer and talk show host reflected on daily joys. She emphasized the importance of her two children, daughter River and son Remington.
“Snuggle,” Clarkson remarked. “My kids, they’re 9 and 11. They’re at that special little fun stage where they can wipe their own behinds, but they’re still small enough to love cuddling and love snuggles.”

Clarkson noted the recent challenges for her family: “There’s been a lot for our family recently, and so I have allowed my kids to sleep with me quite a bit. It’s my two dogs, my two kids and me. It’s a lot. It’s been really special, though, because the conversations you have during that time are pretty cute. So that’s probably my favorite time of day.”
The Q&A, which was shared on Saturday, January 10, comes five months after Blackstock’s passing at age 48 in August 2025 due to cancer. He had been diagnosed with melanoma three years earlier. Clarkson and Blackstock were married for seven years before she filed for divorce in 2020.
Blackstock’s death was confirmed in a statement from Starstruck Entertainment, a company he co-founded with his father, Narvel Blackstock. The statement read: “Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family.”
The day before his passing, Clarkson postponed her Las Vegas residency dates, stating, “While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them.”
