Kawhi Leonard Shines with 27 Points as Clippers Overcome Raptors with Darius Garland’s 24 Points
Kawhi Leonard led the Los Angeles Clippers with 27 points as they defeated the Toronto Raptors 119-94 on Wednesday night. Darius Garland also made a significant contribution, adding 24 points. This victory marks the third consecutive win for the Clippers.
Bennedict Mathurin provided a boost off the bench with 23 points, while Brook Lopez scored 14 points, 11 of which came in a dominant first quarter. The Clippers now hold a half-game lead over the Portland Trail Blazers for eighth place in the Western Conference standings.
On the other side, Brandon Ingram scored 18 points, and Sandro Mamukelashvili chipped in 13. The Raptors have now lost three straight games and have fallen to sixth in the Eastern Conference, trailing the Atlanta Hawks by one game, while staying slightly ahead of the Philadelphia 76ers in seventh.
The Clippers established an early advantage, outscoring the Raptors 23-9 in the final 6:10 of the first quarter to take a 14-point lead. Toronto faced a daunting deficit of 22 points in the second quarter before a late surge that included an 11-1 run, which narrowed the margin slightly. However, missed opportunities plagued the Raptors, who struggled from the free-throw line, shooting just 14.3% (one for seven) in that period.
Despite Toronto’s efforts, highlighted by Mamukelashvili’s consecutive three-pointers and Garland’s buzzer-beater from 35 feet at the end of the third quarter, the Clippers maintained control. They outperformed the Raptors at the free-throw line, converting 19 of 24 attempts and outscoring them by 15 points.
Raptors center Jakob Poeltl briefly left the game after sustaining a cut near his left eye while going for a rebound in the second quarter, but he returned to finish with 10 points.
