Kawhi Leonard Leads Clippers to Comeback Win Over Warriors 114-101
Clippers Overcome Warriors’ Deficit in 114-101 Victory
The Los Angeles Clippers rallied from a significant 17-point deficit to secure a 114-101 victory against the short-handed Golden State Warriors on Monday night. Kawhi Leonard led the way with 23 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.
In his Clippers debut, Darius Garland contributed 12 points off the bench, playing nearly 23 minutes in his first outing since being traded from Cleveland last month as part of the deal that sent James Harden to the Cavaliers.
Garland, who had been recovering from a toe injury, experienced a scare in the second quarter when he collided with Moses Moody while chasing a loose ball. Both players remained in the game, despite being shaken by the incident.
Garland’s pivotal 3-pointer with 3:09 left in the third quarter narrowed the Warriors’ lead to 75-68. Following a steal and layup from Kris Dunn, the Clippers entered the final quarter trailing by just two points at 79-77.
Dunn ended the game with a solid performance, totaling 16 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. Despite struggling from beyond the arc, hitting only 9 of 31 three-point attempts, Los Angeles opened the fourth quarter with a 9-4 run, taking the lead at 88-81.
On the opposing side, Brandin Podziemski led the Warriors with 22 points. Golden State has been coping with injuries, including star player Stephen Curry, who sat out his 11th consecutive game due to a right knee injury. Rising star Kristaps Porzingis missed his fifth straight game, dealing with what coach Steve Kerr described as a “mysterious” illness. Additionally, rookie Will Richard was sidelined in a walking boot due to a sprained right ankle suffered during a previous matchup against the Lakers.
Al Horford contributed 17 points for the Warriors, who have now lost five of their last seven games and nine of 14 overall. Although Podziemski started strong by hitting eight of his first 12 shots and sinking three 3-pointers, he struggled in the second half, scoring just two points on 1-for-6 shooting.
