Kathryn Hahn is Set to Play Mother Gothel in Disney’s Live-Action ‘Tangled’ Movie
Kathryn Hahn has officially joined the cast of Disney’s live-action adaptation of Tangled, where she will portray the character of Mother Gothel. In this role, Hahn’s character keeps Rapunzel, played by Teagan Croft, isolated to exploit the magical properties of her long blonde hair.
In a lighthearted video posted to Instagram, Hahn revealed that she recently discovered the meaning of "OOTD," or "Outfit of The Day." In the clip, she showcased a T-shirt adorned with animated cutouts of Mother Gothel, a character originally voiced by Donna Murphy in the animated version of the film. Notably, her Instagram handle is @motherhahn.
Milo Manheim, known for his role in the Zombies franchise, will play Flynn Rider, a charming yet roguish character.
The film will be directed by Michael Gracey, who was at the helm of The Greatest Showman. The script is penned by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, recognized for her work on Do Revenge, Someone Great, and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Kristin Burr will produce the film through Burr! Productions, with Lucy Kitada serving as executive producer. The original 2010 animated film, Tangled, was directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard, featuring the voices of Mandy Moore as Rapunzel and Zachary Levi as Flynn Rider. The music was composed by Alan Menken, with lyrics by Glenn Slater.
This live-action retelling draws from the Brothers Grimm tale of Rapunzel, and the original Tangled film grossed over $590 million globally, earning an Oscar nomination for the original song “I See The Light.” Additional live-action adaptations of beloved animated features are on the horizon, including Moana, which will hit theaters in July, starring Dwayne Johnson and Catherine Laga’aia.
