Kate Middleton sat beside her husband, Prince William, at the Commonwealth Day service when she noticed the familiar face of a royal photographer. In a heartfelt moment captured on camera by The Daily Mail, she smiled and mouthed a greeting.
The photographer Kate acknowledged was identified by Marie Claire as Arthur Edwards, a veteran photographer who has covered the royal family for The Sun since 1977.

For the annual Commonwealth Day service, which occurs on the second Monday in March, the Princess of Wales donned a cobalt blue pleated coatdress by her favored designer, Catherine Walker. She complemented her look with a Sean Barrett hat, previously worn to the same service in 2023, along with navy suede Gianvito Rossi heels and a Strathberry bag.
Kate’s accessories included a five-strand pearl necklace by Susan Caplan from her collection, paired with Queen Elizabeth’s Bahrain pearl drop earrings. This iconic pair was a wedding gift to the late monarch from Prince Philip in 1947, and Kate has exclusively worn them since debuting them at Remembrance Sunday in 2016.

Royal biographer Robert Jobson emphasized the essential role of the Princess of Wales, stating, “She’s the glue, really. She has an understanding of the way the world works. This is a woman who has come from the people and actually does understand what people expect.”

Russell Myers, another royal biographer, noted that the monarchy also relies heavily on Kate, saying, “There is a solid foundation to their relationship, and what I did find, which will surprise some people, is how much William relies on her. Not just professionally— they have a working relationship and work together a lot of the time—but also personally, emotionally.”
