Kate Middleton Shares How Her 2024 Cancer Diagnosis Changed Her View on Alcohol Consumption
Prince William and Kate Middleton Engage with Community on March 12
On March 12, Prince William and Kate Middleton had a full day of public engagements, which included a visit to Fabal Beerhall located on the Bermondsey Beer Mile, renowned for its array of craft breweries.
During their visit, the Princess of Wales participated actively by pulling pints behind the bar. However, she declined the alcohol offered to her. "Since my diagnosis I haven’t had much alcohol," she explained, emphasizing the need for heightened awareness around her health since her cancer diagnosis in early 2024. The specific type and stage of her cancer have not been disclosed publicly.
Reflecting on her experience, Middleton, who is more than a year into remission, used the occasion to highlight the lasting changes in her lifestyle. "It’s something I have to be a lot more conscious of now," she remarked to the bar’s owner, Hannah Rhodes.
As the couple enjoyed their time at Fabal Beerhall, Rhodes suggested alternatives, to which Kate responded lightheartedly. "But you like your cider, don’t you?” she gently teased Prince William, who sampled various beers and ciders during their visit.
Afterward, William and Kate made their way to the Southwark Brewing Company, eager to try their hand at brewing. Kate took an active role, even climbing a ladder to stir a brewing kettle. The brewery’s owner playfully suggested they could return for a shift after witnessing their enthusiasm.
"Pubs are so important," William noted later, underscoring their role as vital community hubs where people can come together.
Throughout the day, Middleton showcased a sophisticated look, featuring a gray Catherine Walker blazer with a Prince of Wales check pattern, paired with a blue poplin shirt, black cigarette pants, and black Jimmy Choo suede ankle boots. She accessorized with her favorite Cartier Trinity earrings, a gift from her husband that she has donned frequently in recent events.
In addition to their brewery visit, William and Kate also stopped by Borough Market, where they made crumble and custard, chopped cheese, and prepared frothy coffees. In a playful moment, Kate told William, “I made you a coffee! It’s not decaf.” But this time, he opted not to partake.
The duo concluded their busy day by boarding a boat on the River Thames, heading toward the Royal National Lifeboat Institution lifeboat station in Westminster.
