Traditionally, women in the British royal family wear tiaras during state visit banquets. According to reports from The Sunday Times, King Charles is set to host a state visit in March.
“It can be revealed that the King and Queen will host the president of Nigeria on a state visit to the U.K. in March, the first such visit since 1989,” the report stated.
While Buckingham Palace has yet to confirm the visit, it would mark the first state visit to the U.K. for Nigeria in decades.

King Charles and Queen Camilla hosted three state visits in 2025, welcoming French President Emmanuel Macron, United States President Donald Trump, and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in separate events from July to December.
State visits play a crucial role in enhancing diplomatic relations for the U.K. These visits involve foreign heads of state being welcomed by King Charles and also include the British royals undertaking visits abroad.
Inward state visits are typically characterized by ceremonial ceremonies, luncheons with the royal family, grand banquets, and meetings with British officials.

The last time Nigeria was hosted by the British royals was in May 1989, when Queen Elizabeth welcomed General Ibrahim Babangida.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visited Nigeria in May 2024, though that trip was not on behalf of the British crown, as the couple had stepped back from royal duties four years earlier.
PEOPLE’s chief foreign correspondent Simon Perry reported on their activities during the trip, which featured visits to educational institutions and a military hospital, along with events focused on leadership and charity.
During their visit, Meghan Markle expressed her strong identification with Nigeria, stating, “This is my country,” after discovering her Nigerian heritage.

The Nigeria trip was significant for Harry and Meghan, marking their first philanthropic endeavor abroad since they distanced themselves from royal roles and settled in California with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
In August 2024, the couple undertook a similar humanitarian trip to Colombia.
