Kate Middleton Embraces a Styling Tip from Princess Diana to Handle Rainy Days During Her Recent Outing
Prince William and Kate Middleton Make Joint Appearance in Wales
Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Prince and Princess of Wales, made a notable joint appearance in Wales on February 26, marking their second public outing of the week after attending the BAFTAs on February 22. The couple’s visit came as the nation prepares for St. David’s Day on March 1, a celebration of Welsh heritage and the country’s patron saint.
Wearing a striking head-to-toe burgundy outfit, Kate employed a styling technique reminiscent of the late Princess Diana, featuring a coat by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen that showcased bold 1980s-inspired shoulder pads. She complemented the look with a coordinating pussybow blouse by Me+Em and a pleated midiskirt from Co, reflecting a blend of modern elegance and royal nostalgia.
In her efforts to maintain a cohesive style, Kate chose Gianvito Rossi block-heel, pointed-toe shoes, and accessorized with a pair of citrine earrings designed by Kiki McDonough. This particular pair of earrings, which Kate debuted in March 2013, has made sporadic appearances in her wardrobe.
Observers noted that the coat and boots were not entirely new to royal onlookers; Kate had previously worn the same ensemble during a state visit by the Emir of Qatar to the U.K. in December 2024, highlighting her penchant for sustainable fashion choices.
During their visit, William and Kate engaged with the community, exploring various local sites including The Hanging Gardens, a community space, and Oriel Davies Gallery, a contemporary art venue.
Since being designated the Prince and Princess of Wales in September 2022, the couple has routinely celebrated St. David’s Day in Wales, missing only the 2024 event due to Kate’s recent cancer diagnosis.
Royal biographer Russell Myers recently commented on the unique dynamic between William and Kate, noting that the future king relies on her for personal, professional, and emotional support. Myers emphasized that Kate is “the real strategist” for their future, suggesting a profound partnership as they undertake their royal duties together.
