Kahlil Joseph’s ‘BLKNWS: Terms & Conditions’ is Coming to Digital Soon
EXCLUSIVE: Kahlil Joseph’s Debut Feature Set for Global Release
Kahlil Joseph’s debut feature film, BLKNWS: Terms & Conditions, is scheduled to premiere globally on all digital platforms on March 6.
Directed by Joseph, an acclaimed artist and filmmaker, the film utilizes a blend of news clips, archival footage, scripted scenes, and music to craft a distinctive narrative exploring Black life and history. The film’s cinematography is led by Academy Award-nominated Bradford Young.
BLKNWS adapts Joseph’s groundbreaking video art installation, which debuted at the Venice Biennale in 2019. Initially, the film was released in select theaters by indie distributor Rich Spirit, featuring boutique screenings in various cities. Currently, it is part of a theatrical residency at 180 Studios in London. In the United States, the film enjoyed a successful run, screening for over 100 days at Lumiere Cinema in Los Angeles and 60 days at the IFC Center in New York.
Joseph has earned recognition for his thought-provoking installation works and music videos, collaborating with notable artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Sampha, Flying Lotus, and Beyoncé, including the Emmy-nominated Lemonade. His gallery exhibitions have been showcased in institutions ranging from the Tate Modern to the Hammer Museum. Over the past decade, 180 Studios has worked closely with Joseph, from presenting his Kendrick Lamar installation as part of The Infinite Mix in 2016 to commissioning his film Fly Paper in 2018.
BLKNWS had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival last year, followed by a series of prominent screenings at the 2025 Berlinale.
