Justine Triet’s ‘Fonda’ Starts Filming with New Additions to the Cast, Including Odessa A’zion and Ewan Mitchell
Oscar-winning French director Justine Triet has officially launched principal photography for her English-language psychological thriller Fonda, alongside the announcement of several new cast members.
Joining the ensemble are Odessa A’zion, known for Marty Supreme; Benedict Wong from Weapons; Emmy Award winner Cherry Jones, recognized for her role in Succession; and Ewan Mitchell, famous for his performance in House of the Dragon. Additionally, Academy Award winner Allison Janney, who previously hinted at her involvement, has now been confirmed as part of the cast.
Although plot specifics remain undisclosed, the official synopsis hints at a gripping narrative. Set in an ostensibly idyllic environment, Fonda promises a deep dive into the evolving boundaries of sanity, exploring themes of grief and obsession.
This project marks Triet’s first feature after her acclaimed psychological thriller Anatomy of a Fall, which won the Palme d’Or at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. That film not only had a successful awards season but also earned its lead, Sandra Hüller, an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress and secured an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
Fonda sees a reunion of producers from Anatomy of a Fall, including Marie-Ange Luciani of Les Films de Pierre and David Thion of Les Films Pelléas, in collaboration with Delphine Tomson and Belgian filmmakers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne from Les Films du Fleuve.
International sales, financing, and co-production efforts are being managed by Mk2 Films, along with Studiocanal’s Anna Marsh, Francois Mergier, and Assia Barge. The production team also includes Nathanaël Karmitz, Elisha Karmitz, and Fionnuala Jamison.
Filming for Fonda is set to take place from April to June 2026. The news regarding the cast and the commencement of shooting was first reported by Variety.
