Josh Charles Joins the Cast of Netflix’s ‘The 99’ers’
Netflix’s Upcoming Film "The 99’ers" Gathers Star-Studded Cast
Netflix is set to release The 99’ers, a film inspired by Jeré Longman’s book The Girls of Summer: The U.S. Women’s Soccer Team and How It Changed the World. While Netflix representatives have not commented on specific character details, the cast includes notable names such as Zoey Deutch, Emily Bader, Emilia Jones, Alessandro Nivola, Julia McDermott, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Perry Mattfeld, Annabel O’Hagan, Lizzy Greene, and Isabelle Fuhrman.
The film recounts the historic 1999 Women’s World Cup final, where the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team triumphed in a nail-biting penalty shootout against China. This landmark victory occurred in front of a cheering crowd of 93,000 fans and significantly impacted the landscape of women’s sports worldwide.
Nicole Kassell directs the film, working from a screenplay crafted by Katie Lovejoy, Dana Stevens, and Peter Hedges. The project initially featured writers Jill Mazursky and Jamee Decio. Production is led by Liza Chasin of 3Dot Productions, along with partners Hayley Stool and Ross Greenburg. Executive producers include Marla Messing, Jill Mazursky, and Krista Smith.
Emmy Award-winning actor Charles, recognized for his performances in The Good Wife and The Handmaid’s Tale, brings star power to the film. He is currently featured in Fox’s series Best Medicine, which has been renewed for a second season. Charles is represented by UTA.
