Joseph Duggar from ’19 Kids & Counting’ Faces Child Sex Abuse Charges
Joseph Duggar, a former cast member of TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting and its spinoff Counting On, was arrested on Wednesday following allegations of sexual abuse.
The investigation was initiated after a 14-year-old victim reported she had been abused by Duggar when she was just 9 years old. According to a statement from the Bay County Sheriff’s Office in Florida, the 31-year-old Duggar faces charges of lewd and lascivious behavior involving unlawful sexual activity with a minor.
“On March 18, 2026, Bay County investigators were contacted by a detective with the Tontitown Police Department regarding a report of past sexual abuse,” noted a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office. “The 14-year-old victim participated in a forensic interview, where she disclosed several incidents involving Duggar that occurred during a family vacation in Panama City Beach when she was 9 years old.”
The victim provided details during the investigation, stating that Duggar repeatedly encouraged her to sit on his lap. She further described incidents where he requested she sit beside him on a couch, covering them with a blanket, during which he manipulated her underwear and made inappropriate contact. “Duggar would also continue to rub his hands on her thighs,” the victim reported.
The victim recounted that Duggar apologized for his behavior, and the incidents ceased following his apology. Authorities indicated that Duggar acknowledged the events to both his father and police after being confronted on March 17.
Duggar gained prominence as part of 19 Kids and Counting, which aired from 2008 to 2015, showcasing the lives of Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar along with their 19 children. The original series was canceled following accusations against Duggar’s brother, Josh, which prompted the creation of a spinoff, Counting On, that ran from 2015 to 2021, before it was canceled in anticipation of Josh’s upcoming child pornography trial.
Josh Duggar faced serious allegations of abusing underage girls, including four of his sisters, and was subsequently arrested for child pornography. He was convicted and sentenced to 12 years in prison.
