José Soriano Shines on the Mound with 10 Strikeouts in Angels’ Win Over Braves
Angels Defeat Braves 6-2 Behind Soriano’s Stellar Performance
In a commanding display, José Soriano pitched eight innings, leading the Los Angeles Angels to a 6-2 victory against the Atlanta Braves on Monday night. Soriano, now with a perfect 3-0 record, struck out ten batters, allowing just one run and three hits without issuing any walks.
The night began with a bang as Zach Neto hit a leadoff home run on the very first pitch from Chris Sale. Soriano was in top form, throwing 69 of his 96 pitches for strikes and dominating the Braves lineup. After giving up a solo homer to Drake Baldwin and a single to Matt Olson in the first inning, Soriano retired 19 consecutive batters, demonstrating remarkable control and skill.
In the ninth inning, Mauricio Dubón homered off Angels reliever Chase Silseth, but Atlanta’s hopes dwindled when they put two runners on base with two outs. Jordan Romano stepped in, securing his fourth save by getting Mike Yastrzemski to fly out.
The Angels played without star center fielder Mike Trout, who left Sunday’s game against Seattle after being hit on the left hand by a fastball. Though X-rays were negative, Trout’s swelling has kept him listed as day to day.
Chris Sale, who entered the game with an 8-0 record and a 1.24 ERA against the Angels, faced an early setback. He allowed Neto’s home run and even though he managed to retire his next nine batters, the Angels capitalized in the fourth inning. The Angels scored three runs during a chaotic frame that included two walks, two hit batsmen, and an infield single from Bryce Teodosio that extended their lead to 4-1.
Adding to the excitement, Jo Adell crushed a first-pitch fastball for a two-run homer in the fifth inning, pushing the score to 6-1.
As the Angels celebrated their third consecutive victory, their performance highlighted the team’s resilience and depth, even in Trout’s absence.
