Jonathan Entwistle to Direct Studiocanal’s ‘Endless Night’
Director Jonathan Entwistle is poised to take the helm of Studiocanal’s upcoming psychological thriller, Endless Night, which reimagines Agatha Christie’s classic novel of the same name. The screenplay, adapted by Emily Siegel, will see production from The Picture Company, with partners Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman under their overall deal with Studiocanal.
The film centers around an ambitious young man in his twenties who becomes ensnared in a web of deception after forming a romantic relationship with a volatile American heiress and her assistant. Studiocanal’s Ron Halpern and Shana Eddy-Grouf will serve as executive producers, overseeing the project.
Studiocanal has enjoyed a string of successes, including We Live in Time, Paddington in Peru, and Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. The studio is also set to release the World War II drama Pressure next year, featuring actors Andrew Scott and Brendan Fraser.
Entwistle has gained recognition as a director following his successes with Netflix series such as *The End of the F**ing World and I Am Not Okay With This. Recently, he garnered acclaim from the box office performance of Sony’s Karate Kid: Legends, which grossed $116 million worldwide.
Siegel, a former journalist and New York Times bestselling author turned screenwriter, previously adapted the novel We Were Never Here for Netflix and Berlanti/Schechter Films. She has also sold an original thriller to Chernin and co-wrote the upcoming feature Family Secrets for ACE. Her debut script, Story, made the 2020 Black List.
The Picture Company is fresh off the Best Picture-nominated film A Complete Unknown and is currently in post-production on Control, starring James McAvoy and Julianne Moore, also for Studiocanal. The company plans to begin production on David Weil’s original thriller Tyrant next year for Amazon MGM Studios and is actively casting for David Gordon Green’s Supermax for Miramax. They recently secured the action thriller The Operator, starring Mark Wahlberg, at Netflix.
Entwistle is represented by CAA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, 42, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman. Siegel is represented by CAA and The Gotham Group. The Picture Company is also represented by CAA.
