As Hollywood gears up for its biggest night, celebrations unfolded across Los Angeles throughout the weekend. A notable event took place at the Sun Rose Hotel in West Hollywood on Friday night, March 13.
Hosted by HarbourView Equity Partners and music director Adam Blackstone, the Las’ Set: Legacy Experience brought together prominent figures in R&B and soul to honor the life and legacy of the legendary Quincy Jones.
“[Jones] didn’t just create hits; he created moments that move culture,” Sherrese Clarke, founder and CEO of HarbourView Equity Partners, remarked at the beginning of the evening. “At HarbourView, we often speak about stewardship, because those of us who work at the intersection of music, story, and legacy understand something clearly: Great work is never merely an asset. It’s history, it’s identity, it’s the living memory of a people. Quincy’s catalog carries all of that, and the weight of it demands reverence.”
The intimate pre-Oscars gathering featured a star-studded lineup of Jones’ collaborators, mentees, and inspired artists who took the stage to perform selections from his expansive catalog. At the evening’s outset, Blackstone, along with his band, welcomed guests to “Q’s Juke Joint.”
A diverse range of tracks written and produced by Jones, including “Killer Joe,” “Home” from The Wiz, and several Michael Jackson classics, filled the air. Notable performances came from longtime collaborator Terrace Martin, two-time Grammy winner Lucky Daye, “Man in the Mirror” co-writer Siedah Garrett, and soul icon Lalah Hathaway. D Smoke made a surprise appearance with a freestyle tribute to Jones, over a sample from one of his tracks. The evening concluded with an electrifying rendition of Rufus and Chaka Khan’s hit “Do You Love What You Feel” by 2026 Grammy Award winner Durand Bernarr, which topped the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in 1979.
The audience was equally star-studded, featuring Dr. Dre, Hit-Boy, and Jimmy Jam among the attendees. Actresses Jurnee Smollett and Natasha Lyonne, singer Estelle, and producer William Packer were also present. Members of Jones’ family, including Quincy Jones III (QD3) and Martina Jones, joined the festivities, eager to celebrate their father’s enduring legacy.
