Join Palm Springs Pride in Celebrating Marilyn Monroe’s 100th Birthday This May
Palm Springs Pride Aims to Honor Marilyn Monroe’s Legacy with Guinness World Record Attempt
In recognition of what would have marked Marilyn Monroe’s 100th birthday, Palm Springs Pride plans to host a Guinness World Record attempt this May. The event aims to gather 500 participants dressed as the iconic actress for a synchronized martini toast.
The centennial celebration, titled "Marilyn 100," is scheduled to take place from May 29 to June 1 in downtown Palm Springs, with the main event occurring on May 30.
To surpass the current record of 254 look-alikes, organizers are calling for a spirited turnout of 500 participants. Each participant will receive a "Marilyn icon kit," featuring a white halter dress, a martini glass, and the signature platinum blonde wig. A $75 registration fee will be required to take part in this celebratory effort.
"Marilyn was a trailblazing ally who championed authenticity long before it was fashionable," said Jasmine Sullivan-Waits of Palm Springs Pride. "By stepping into her shoes, our participants are supporting the values of visibility and inclusion that define Palm Springs."
In addition to the record attempt, local businesses such as restaurants, galleries, and hotels have been encouraged to create their own Monroe-themed events to complement the celebration.
