John Mellencamp Discusses Daughter Teddi’s Health Struggles
John Mellencamp has expressed a heartfelt desire for his daughter, Teddi, to return home to Indiana as she navigates her battle with stage 4 melanoma. During an appearance on the Today show on January 16, the singer revealed that he has encouraged Teddi, a star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, to relocate back to help her during this challenging time.
"You can’t say you’re cancer-free with the type of cancer she’s got for three years," said John, 74, while discussing Teddi’s condition. He highlighted the gravity of her situation, noting, "So she has lesions in her brain. It went from her back, just a little, teeny spot on her. Over the last couple years, it grew, and it got inside her brain and her lungs."
Teddi, 44, has been undergoing immunotherapy, which has resulted in fluctuating health. "She has good days and feels good until her immunotherapy sessions. She feels like hell for about four days before she starts feeling normal again," he said.

John also shared his frustration regarding Teddi’s reluctance to move back home. "I’ve tried to talk her into moving back home," he said. "I said, ‘Move back to Indiana, bring the kids and just come back and live in Indiana,’ but she won’t do it."
Just days before his Today show appearance, John discussed Teddi’s situation on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, referring to her ongoing struggle with cancer. “She’s got cancer in the brain, and she’s suffering right now,” he stated.
Teddi previously revealed in October that following an immunotherapy session, she was informed there was "no detectable cancer." Reflecting on that moment, she shared, "When they told me, I was in such shock. I was like, numb." She acknowledged, however, that while she experiences good days, she remains engaged in an ongoing fight against the disease.
Diagnosed with melanoma in 2022 after the removal of a mole, Teddi has since had 17 melanomas removed. By February 2025, doctors identified multiple tumors in her brain, and later confirmed metastasis to her brain and lungs, officially classifying her cancer as stage four.
In a recent Nightline interview, she noted the difficult odds laid out by her doctors. "Immunotherapy sessions have a ’50/50′ chance of working," she said, adding, "I wouldn’t buy a car that’s only gonna drive 50% of the time. I don’t want this."

In addition to supporting his daughter, John Mellencamp is preparing for his upcoming "Dancing Words Tour — The Greatest Hits," which he announced on January 14. Reflecting on his decision to tour after several years of resistance, he said, "This time, I’m 74 years old. I thought I might be getting to the age where I might want to try to share these songs with people again."
He emphasized the importance of family, expressing a heartfelt wish to have all his children live close. "I’d have all my kids live at home if I could," he stated.
