John Harbaugh Opens Up About His Relationship With QB Lamar Jackson
John Harbaugh Reflects on Time with Lamar Jackson Following Ravens Dismissal
John Harbaugh recently shared insights into his relationship with former Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, emphasizing the positivity they cultivated during their time together, following his departure from the team.
In a conversation on the January 20 episode of Evan & Tiki LIVE on WFAN, Harbaugh described their connection as “phenomenal.” He remarked, “Everything has been absolutely positive. Ask him, he’ll tell you. We love each other. We tell each other we love each other. He’s one of my favorite human beings.”
Harbaugh, who was released from his position as head coach of the Ravens after 18 seasons and a recent tenure that saw the team miss the playoffs for the first time since 2021, has been appointed by the New York Giants. He made these comments while participating in the live broadcast from his introductory press conference, marking the formal beginning of his five-year contract with the Giants.
“I’m excited to be here,” Harbaugh said during the event. “These families are amazing. This place is different in a lot of great ways. It’s one of a kind. It’s iconic. It’s the New York Giants. The New York football Giants. It was probably going to be them from the beginning.”
After being relieved of his duties on January 6, Harbaugh expressed his feelings in a statement filled with gratitude. “Well, I was hoping for a different kind of message on my last day here, someday, but that day has come today. It comes with disappointment certainly, but more with GRATEFULNESS & APPRECIATION,” he stated.
He also thanked the Ravens’ ownership and organization for the experiences he gained during his tenure, which included winning Super Bowl XLVII in 2012. “A difficult thing to do … and Appreciation for all the moments, all these years, that are etched into eternity,” he said.
The day after Harbaugh’s firing, former President Donald Trump endorsed him via Truth Social, urging rapid action from NFL teams. “HIRE JOHN HARBAUGH, FAST,” Trump wrote, adding that he and his brother are “TOTAL WINNERS!!!”
In subsequent posts, Trump suggested the Giants hire Harbaugh, which they did just a week later. Addressing Trump’s endorsement during his press conference, Harbaugh noted, “I also noticed on that post that he said, ‘John, take the job,’ So I thought that [Giants owner] John Mara might have something to do with that. I don’t know, but it’s cool.”
Mara has faced scrutiny in the past for his interactions with Trump, particularly regarding comments made about NFL players during protests against racial injustice.
Harbaugh’s departure from the Ravens and subsequent hiring by the Giants opens a new chapter for the experienced coach, who concluded his Baltimore career with a record of 180-113. Despite a challenging 8-9 season in 2025, his overall contributions to the team and the league remain noteworthy.
