Jimmy Kimmel Shares Thoughts on a Challenging Year in His Christmas TV Speech
Jimmy Kimmel is set to provoke conversation with a Christmas Day speech that critically addresses what he calls a “really great year” for fascism, particularly in relation to Donald Trump.
Kimmel will deliver the annual Alternative Christmas Message for Channel 4, airing shortly after King Charles III’s address to the nation.
While Channel 4 has yet to disclose the full content of Kimmel’s speech, he is anticipated to comment on the implications for free speech, stating, “From a fascism perspective, this has been a really great year.”
The late-night host will also reflect on his own experience with the Trump administration, highlighting a previous incident where ABC temporarily suspended him following controversial comments made in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s death. Kimmel later issued an apology for those remarks.
This incident drew considerable attention, with critics accusing Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr of attempting to silence those who oppose Trump.
Insiders at Channel 4 have described Kimmel’s forthcoming address as warm in tone but underscored by a serious message.
A Channel 4 spokesperson remarked, “Donald Trump’s return to the White House and wide-ranging impact on the world has been the story of 2025, and it would be hard to think of a better person to address it than Jimmy Kimmel, who has found himself on the frontline of America’s battle over free speech.”
Since its inception in 1993, Channel 4’s Alternative Christmas Message has offered an alternative to the traditional royal message, providing viewers with thought-provoking reflections on the past year’s events.
Previous speakers have included notable figures such as Stephen Fry, Danny Dyer, and a deepfake of Queen Elizabeth II.
