Jim Carrey’s New Look: A Plastic Surgeon’s Take on the Recent Criticism
Dr. Terry Dubrow Defends Jim Carrey’s New Look Amid Criticism
Celebrity plastic surgeon Dr. Terry Dubrow came to the defense of actor Jim Carrey, who has faced backlash regarding his altered appearance following a recent public appearance at the César Awards in Paris. Dubrow expressed concern about the "mean" comments circulating in the media and among fans.
During an appearance on Tori Spelling’s "misSpelling" podcast, Dubrow noted the unsettling nature of the paparazzi’s questions regarding Carrey’s looks. "All they want to do is talk about the way poor Jim Carrey looks," he stated. "It’s like, what do you say when you’re confronted with that stuff? It’s so mean, right?"
While acknowledging that Carrey appears "different," Dubrow emphasized that many fans are simply unaccustomed to seeing the 64-year-old comedian, who has maintained a youthful look for years. "I still think he looks great," Dubrow added, reinforcing his admiration for the actor.
Dubrow clarified that he does not know whether Carrey has undergone plastic surgery but pointed out that any swelling post-procedure could temporarily alter one’s appearance. "He’s kind of our national comedic treasure. Can’t we be a little more kind?" Dubrow implored.
The criticism surrounding Carrey’s appearance has drawn comparisons to body-shaming. Dubrow urged audiences to have empathy, highlighting that negative comments can impact the individual behind the public persona. "Every plastic surgeon in the world is going online and talking about, ‘There’s less skin in his upper eyelids and his brows are higher,’ and they’re dissecting him with a microscope, which is so unfair," he remarked.
Carrey captured attention at the February 26 awards show when he accepted the Honorary César Award, stirring conversation about his physical changes. Many have speculated that his different look stems from surgeries, with some even questioning if he was an "impersonator." Carrey’s representative firmly refuted these claims, stating, "Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award."
The César Awards’ general delegate, Gregory Caulier, also condemned the impersonation rumors, describing Carrey’s attendance as a significant event that had been planned for months. "Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer," Caulier told Variety. "From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation."
Though reclusive in recent years, Carrey made a notable return to acting with his role in "Sonic the Hedgehog 3," signaling his ongoing commitment to his craft despite questions surrounding his public appearances.
