Jessie J revealed her experience meeting Kate Middleton, noting their shared bond as cancer survivors and mothers.
During a segment aired on Good Morning America on December 5, the 37-year-old pop star discussed her encounter with the 43-year-old Princess of Wales at the Royal Variety Performance in London on November 19.
ABC News Foreign Correspondent Maggie Rulli asked Jessie, “Did Princess Kate say anything to you, mom to mom?”
Jessie recounted, “She just said, ‘Thank you, I know you’ve gone through a tough time.’ I said, ‘I know you have too.’ I wanted to acknowledge that, mum to mum, cancer survivor to cancer survivor. I see you, and I feel you. Can I give you a hug?’ She said, ‘Of course you can.’
“I’m grateful she received it in the way it was meant,” she added.

At the Royal Variety Show, both Jessie and Princess Kate spoke and shared a hug, highlighting their shared experiences.
Jessie, along with her partner Chanan Safir Colman, shares a two-year-old son, Sky. In contrast, Princess Kate and Prince William are parents to three children: Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7.
In March 2024, Princess Kate announced she was undergoing treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer, subsequently reducing her royal duties. By September 2024, she reported completion of chemotherapy and revealed early this year that she is in remission.
In June, Jessie, whose full name is Jessica Cornish, shared that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy later that month.

The singer is scheduled for a second operation, which was postponed, leading her to cancel her U.S. tour.
On December 3, during an appearance on the British talk show This Morning, Jessie discussed breaking royal protocol to embrace Princess Kate, emphasizing their connections as mothers who have faced cancer publicly.
“I was briefed not to, but… I just saw a mom that has also gone through cancer publicly, and I just wanted to give her a hug,” Jessie stated. “It was as simple as that. I didn’t see her as the Princess of Wales. I obviously respected that, but I just asked, ‘Can I give you a hug?’ and she received it.”
“I just said [to her], ‘It’s inspiring.’ I know the challenges she may have faced, and I wanted to give her a hug — mom to mom, human to human.”
