Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, known for their proud and private parenting style, continue to navigate co-parenting after their split in 2015. Their divorce became official three years later, but the couple remains dedicated to raising their three children: Violet Anne, 20; Seraphina Rose, 17; and Samuel, 13.
Over the years, Garner and Affleck have focused on shielding their children from the intense media scrutiny and paparazzi attention that often surrounds celebrity families. In a notable effort in 2013, Garner collaborated with fellow celebrity parents, including Halle Berry, to support legislation that prohibited paparazzi from taking photos of children without parental consent. Garner has also publicly expressed her stance against social media for her children, stating she sees no positive aspects to it.
Despite their attempts to maintain a degree of privacy, the family has faced challenges due to ongoing public interest. In January 2022, Affleck expressed concerns about how his children cope with his public image, revealing he had previously disregarded media coverage of himself until his children began to take notice.

"I reached a stage where the public perception of me began to diverge significantly from who I really am, which led me to stop paying attention," Affleck noted. However, he emphasized that as his children grew older and engaged with social media, he became increasingly concerned. "The opinions of my kids are what matter most to me," he stated during an interview with Good Morning America in December 2021. He remarked that his legacy will be shaped by how his children perceive him.
Affleck also shared how his parenting decisions influence his career choices. Increasingly valuing time with his children, he established his production company, Artists Equity, to enable a more flexible work schedule. "I share custody and don’t want to miss these formative years," he expressed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in March 2023.
Since their divorce, both Garner and Affleck have pursued new relationships. Garner has been linked to CEO John Miller, while Affleck’s recent marriage to Jennifer Lopez ended in August 2024 after two years.
The couple’s reflections on parenting highlight both the joys and challenges of raising children under public scrutiny.

Garner and Affleck welcomed their eldest child, Violet, on December 1, 2005. At the time, representatives confirmed that both mother and baby were doing well. Violet shares a middle name with her mother, Anne.
Garner has expressed her admiration for Affleck’s parenting capabilities, particularly in a 2007 interview where she declared, "Ben is everything I hoped for and more." She highlighted her comfort in seeing Violet develop a close bond with Affleck, remarking on his natural parenting abilities.
The couple’s effort to shield their children from media attention became especially pronounced early on. Garner once recounted a poignant moment in which Violet, just a kindergartner, spoke out against the invasive nature of paparazzi. During a public appearance, she remarked, "We didn’t ask for this. We don’t want these cameras, they’re scary," illustrating the anxiety such scrutiny inflicted on their family.
Garner has frequently reiterated the importance of maintaining a sense of normalcy for her children. She has also shared her apprehension regarding social media, stating that she forbids Violet from joining platforms until she feels she’s old enough to handle them responsibly.
Now nearing adulthood, Violet made her first significant public appearance for her 17th birthday at a State dinner hosted by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. She is also poised to begin her college journey at Yale University in the fall of 2024.
Seraphina Rose Elizabeth Affleck, 17
Garner and Affleck’s second child, Seraphina, was born on January 6, 2009. Following her arrival, friends praised the couple’s nurturing capabilities. Bradley Cooper, a close friend, remarked on Garner’s leadership skills, emphasizing her ability to thrive in multiple roles, including that of a parent.
As Seraphina matured, Affleck revealed that becoming a father to multiple children shifted his perspective on work-life balance. In recent years, he has described the balancing act of co-parenting amid a demanding career as a significant challenge that has influenced his project choices.
Despite the challenges, Seraphina appears to have embraced her life in a blended family. She has been seen bonding with Lopez’s children and participated in special family events, including her parents’ recent wedding celebrations.
Samuel Affleck, 13
Lastly, Garner and Affleck welcomed their son Samuel on February 27, 2012. Affleck candidly shared his joy about becoming a father to a boy during a conversation with Ellen DeGeneres.
As Samuel has grown, he has developed a keen interest in baseball, much like his father. Affleck has taken an active role in Samuel’s Little League experiences, emphasizing the importance of being present for his son. He recounted how he prioritized his son’s games, often reshuffling his work schedule to make it possible.
In his parenting journey, Affleck has humorously reflected on his efforts to instill a love for Boston sports in Samuel, emphasizing the balance of guidance versus allowing his child to develop his own interests.
Through their parenting adventures, Garner and Affleck continue to demonstrate their commitment to their children’s well-being, navigating the complexities of fame and family with as much care as possible.
