Jason Crowe Jr. Wraps Up His High School Basketball Journey After Tough Loss to Damien
Inglewood Star’s Record-Breaking Career Ends in Playoff Loss
Inglewood High School’s Jason Crowe Jr. concluded his remarkable basketball journey with a bittersweet performance, scoring 34 points in an 84-65 defeat to Damien in the Southern California Division I regional playoff on Tuesday night. Despite the loss, Crowe Jr. celebrated the end of his high school career, receiving a warm embrace from his mother and accolades from his father and coach, Jason Crowe Sr.
With a total of 4,718 points amassed over 124 games, Crowe Jr. holds the state record for the most points scored in California history, surpassing the next closest player by over 1,000 points. His impressive scoring average stands at 38.0 points per game.
“I think he’s had an amazing high school career,” stated his father. “He had to go against the best defenses every night. I’m proud of him. He brought this program to the Division I level. He was on the honor roll every year.” Crowe Sr. is set to join his son at the University of Missouri next season as an assistant coach.
Damien, boasting a strong roster, showcased impressive performance with Eli Garner scoring 25 points and Zaire Rasshan contributing 24 points. Garner’s five-point play and Rasshan’s four-point play were key highlights in the game. Damien, now at 28-7, will face third-seeded Crespi, who defeated Bishop Amat 83-66 in the previous round.
“An incredible career,” remarked Damien’s coach, Mike LeDuc, when reflecting on Crowe Jr.’s achievements.
In other playoff action, Mater Dei overcame a 12-point halftime deficit to defeat top-seeded La Mirada 86-79. Additionally, St. John Bosco triumphed over San Marcos 65-55, with Christian Collins and Max Ellis scoring 30 and 19 points, respectively. Venice secured a 61-50 victory against Riverside Ramona, led by Canaan Rodriguez’s 18 points.
As the high school season comes to an end, Crowe Jr.’s legacy is firmly etched in California’s basketball history.
