Jason Bateman Teams Up with Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell for Netflix’s New Film ‘The Cackling of the Dodos’
During a Netflix press event on Wednesday, executives Dan Lin and Jinny Howe announced the upcoming feature film, The Cackling of the Dodos. The project will be directed by Jason Bateman, who also stars in the film alongside Sam Rockwell and Woody Harrelson.
This new film marks a continued partnership between Netflix and Bateman, known for his work as an executive producer and star of the acclaimed series Ozark and Black Rabbit.
The Cackling of the Dodos tells the story of George, a small-town farmer whose day takes a disastrous turn when he discovers a corpse in a grain bin. As a result, he finds himself reluctantly pulled into a chaotic cover-up orchestrated by his boss, Denny. The screenplay is based on an original story by novelist Rye Curtis, recognized for Kingdomtide.
Rockwell, who received the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, has lent his talents to recent films such as Argylle, See How They Run, the animated The Bad Guys franchise, and Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die. Harrelson is a three-time Oscar nominee, recognized for his performances in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, The Messenger, and The People vs. Larry Flynt. He has also appeared in recent films like Ella McCay, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, Last Breath, and Fly Me to the Moon.
Bateman recently received an Actor Award nomination from SAG-AFTRA for his role in Black Rabbit and portrayed the villain in the upcoming airport security thriller Carry-On, which ranked in Netflix’s Global Top 10 for eight weeks. Over its four-season run, Ozark garnered 45 Emmy nominations, solidifying Bateman’s reputation in the industry.
