Janel Parrish, best known for her role as a villain on Pretty Little Liars, is embracing her newfound status as a beloved figure of the holiday season. Following her successful run in the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before movie series, Parrish has turned to Hallmark, starring in a series of holiday films, including this year’s Christmas on Duty.

During a recent appearance aboard the TJ Maxx Maxxinista Express bus—a promotional vehicle transporting fans to various stores throughout December—Parrish opened up about her beauty preparation for the holidays. She shared her insights on maintaining glowing skin while filming in the cold climates of Canada, as well as tips for integrating lip care into her festive makeup routine and her transition to a cleaner eyeshadow aesthetic.

"I love Christmas makeup," Parrish says. Her holiday look typically combines festive red with classic black eyeliner for a cat-eye effect. "It usually includes something red for the Christmas spirit… The hair and makeup department for the Hallmark holiday movies usually put me in that kind of look, and though my approach to festive makeup hasn’t changed much since doing these movies, I now feel like I get to bring it to the screen."

Expressing her enthusiasm for beauty products, Parrish notes, "It’s just fun to play." She appreciates the beauty section at TJ Maxx, where she finds unique items for both herself and her mother. "If I’m shopping for my mom, I know what kind of lip color she likes, and I try to look for that. I’m usually going to try to find some punchy red lipstick, like I’m wearing today."

Parrish describes her ongoing journey with makeup, admitting, "I’m always learning new makeup tricks on every single movie that I work on and from every single makeup artist that I work with.” She recently discovered a method for softening lip looks by applying lip balm before lip liner.

For her film roles, particularly in Hallmark productions, Parrish aims for a soft beauty aesthetic. "Today, to bring the Christmas spirit and the festive cheer, I went for a brighter, orangey-red lip that matches my outfit," she explains. Reflecting on her evolving style, she added, "I’ve been really liking a cleaner eyeshadow look paired with a bold lip."

Amid winter’s challenges, Parrish recommends some effective skincare hacks. "Sleeping in sheet masks overnight gives you glass skin," she shares, adding that eye patches can brighten the under-eye area in mere minutes.

With experience growing up on film sets, Parrish highlights the influence of professional stylists in her beauty evolution. "I’m grateful that I’ve been able to learn those things from professionals on set," she says. "Ultimately, I think beauty is such an expression of self and I like to change my beauty to reflect whatever mood I’m feeling."
