On Christmas Day, Jamie Lynn Spears celebrated the holiday by gifting her daughter Maddie an all-terrain vehicle (ATV). This gesture holds particular significance as it comes nearly nine years after Maddie, now 17, was involved in a traumatic ATV accident that left her in a coma.
In an Instagram post, Spears shared a carousel of photos from the family celebration, which included Maddie, her younger sister Ivey, 7, and her nephew Sean, 20, the son of her sister Britney Spears. One photo showed a red ATV adorned with a large bow, featuring Maddie’s name spelled out in gold glitter.
“Merry CHRISTMAS ✝️🤶🏻🎀🎄🎁,” Jamie Lynn wrote in her caption, emphasizing the joy of the occasion.
The decision to gift Maddie another ATV comes as a poignant reminder of the challenges the family has faced. In 2017, Maddie was involved in a harrowing accident that nearly cost her life. During an appearance on the U.K. reality show *I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here*, Jamie Lynn recounted the terrifying experience.
In her reflections, Jamie Lynn shared, “I almost lost my oldest daughter … She drowned and we couldn’t save her.” The memory remains vivid, as she explained how Maddie, then just 8 or 9 years old, became trapped under a vehicle while riding around their pond.
Jamie Lynn described the frantic moment when family members jumped in to rescue Maddie, recalling, “I could feel her arm, and I’m jerking it… In that moment, you think, logically she’s been underwater too long.” Following the accident, Maddie was airlifted to the hospital, where doctors initially feared the worst. In a miraculous turn of events, she subsequently regained consciousness.
In February 2024, Jamie Lynn marked the seventh anniversary of Maddie’s accident on her Instagram, reflecting on the experience and expressing gratitude to healthcare professionals who played a vital role in her daughter’s recovery. “Every year that passes and I watch my daughter grow up, the more I realize how very blessed we are,” she wrote.
Maddie has also recently shared her own insights regarding the accident. In a video posted on her YouTube channel, she remarked, “I did have an accident though. I was in a coma, and I came back to life, and I’m very blessed.” She added, “I’ve just been very accident-prone. I swear my parents are amazing and they did not do anything to me.”
