Jack White Criticizes President Trump for Sharing Offensive Video of the Obamas
Former President Donald Trump faced renewed backlash from musician Jack White following the posting of a controversial video on Trump’s official Truth Social account. The video, which depicted Michelle and Barack Obama in a derogatory manner, was quickly deleted after drawing widespread criticism for invoking a historically racist trope.
White, known for his vocal criticism of Trump, shared a screenshot of the now-deleted clip on Instagram on February 6. In his post, he remarked, “This post would basically get anyone, at any job fired immediately … except for arguably the most important position in the world.”
The musician expressed disbelief over the former president’s influence, questioning, “How is it possible we’ve given this evil man so much power?” White urged the American public to “indict” and “jail” Trump, referencing his association with convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, which surfaced in recently released Epstein files. Trump has denied any wrongdoing related to Epstein.
In a passionate statement, White continued, “Abolish these loopholes, abolish the electoral college … that got us here in the first place and [have] failed not only Americans, but everyone else in the world who is currently suffering from our policies and suffering from the whims of this sick, deranged man who I will state again, has his tiny, bruised fingers on the nuclear launch button.”
Billboard has sought comment from the White House regarding these remarks.
The video reportedly remained on Trump’s account for twelve hours before being taken down. A White House official stated that a staffer had “erroneously” posted the video. However, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt characterized the video as part of an internet meme depicting Trump as the “King of the Jungle” with Democrats as characters from The Lion King.
“Please stop the fake outrage and report on something today that actually matters to the American public,” she added.
Public figures like White have responded differently. In 2023, White critiqued Trump and his followers, stating on Instagram, “Anybody who ‘normalizes’ or treats this disgusting fascist, racist, con man, disgusting piece of s–t Trump with any level of respect is also disgusting in my book.”
Earlier this year, White condemned Trump for mocking filmmaker Rob Reiner shortly after it was reported that Reiner and his wife had been murdered. Calling Trump a “disgusting, vile, egomaniac loser,” he asserted that using someone’s tragic death for personal gain is a “corrupt and narcissistic sin.”
