Jack Black Shares Exciting News for Gamers About the Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Jack Black will reprise his role as Bowser in the upcoming The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, offering fans a glimpse of what to expect from the animated feature.
While Black remained tight-lipped about specifics, he indicated that gamers familiar with Super Mario Galaxy will appreciate the film’s adaptation.
“I am sworn to secrecy, but there are tons of Easter eggs, and anyone who loves that universe will be very pleased with the way that it’s been brought to the big screen,” Black shared with GamesRadar+.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled for theatrical release on April 3, 2026. The cast will feature returning voice actors including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, in addition to Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
New additions to the cast include Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is helmed by directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, with a screenplay written by Matthew Fogel. The film is a collaboration between Illumination and Universal, co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo, and will be distributed worldwide by Universal.
The previous installment, Super Mario Bros. Movie, released in 2023, stands as the third-highest-grossing animated film globally, grossing $1.36 billion. It also achieved the second-best opening over Easter weekend, with a three-day total of $166.4 million in the U.S., second only to Batman v. Superman, which earned $181 million.
