Isla Fisher Reflects on Newfound Freedom After Divorce and Milestone Birthday
In a recent interview, actress Isla Fisher shared how her divorce and turning 50 have provided her with a sense of liberation. Speaking at Time’s Women of the Year Gala in Los Angeles, Fisher emphasized her feelings of freedom following her split from Sacha Baron Cohen.
Fisher, who finalized her divorce from Cohen in 2025, remarked, "I’m good. I’m so great. I turned 50. I was so nervous about that… but it has felt so freeing. I feel so liberated. There’s something about being divorced where you just feel like you could just do anything."

Fisher humorously described her divorce as a "get out of jail free" card, expressing a newfound freedom in her choices. "You could just do anything, and someone would be like, ‘Oh, don’t worry. She’s divorced.’ It’s so cool," she added.
The couple, who married in 2010 after meeting in 2001, share three children. Their separation was initially reported in 2023, with a public confirmation following in 2024. In a joint Instagram post, they stated, "After a long tennis match lasting over twenty years, we are finally putting our racquets down."

Upon finalizing their divorce, Fisher and Cohen expressed mutual respect, stating, “We are proud of all we’ve achieved together and, continuing our great respect for each other, we remain friends and committed to co-parenting our wonderful children." They also requested privacy for their children.
Fisher described the end of her marriage as "the most difficult thing" she has ever faced, yet she told The Times in 2025 that she has learned a great deal about herself through the experience. “I never imagined my family being separated, but we are committed and loving parents,” she stated.
The actress stressed the importance of prioritizing her children in the wake of their separation, emphasizing, “Kids are the most important thing, and you want them to really feel safe and loved. We are building a new, healthy version of what our family looks like and putting as much care and love into it as possible."
