Isla Fisher Shares Her Journey with Magic, Mindfulness, and Self-Discovery
Isla Fisher’s latest press tour for Now You See Me 3, which debuts today, showcases her characteristic warmth and sharp wit despite the exhaustion of red-eye flights. The actress, author, and devoted mother expresses both gratitude and a renewed sense of self as she navigates life post-divorce—a chapter she describes as one of rediscovery.
Reflecting on her current state, Fisher shared, “I actually thought this morning that I was feeling just really overwhelmed. And then I had to remind myself to be super grateful for being at this position in my career and my life.” This mindful balance between chaos and contentment seems to guide Fisher as she embraces her passions and seeks solace through self-care practices that keep her grounded amid her busy schedule.
Fisher’s upbeat demeanor is evident in her approach to travel and personal well-being. She spoke candidly about the joy she finds in her routines on the road and the beauty strategies that help her maintain her radiant appearance. As she dives back into the Now You See Me franchise, she likens the experience to a sprinkle of cinematic excitement and personal fulfillment.
“Now that my kids are a bit older, I can feel a little bit less guilty for going away for a week here or a week there,” Fisher noted. “I try to remember that I am lucky to get to travel and do these things. Ultimately, with the Horseman—Woody, Dave, Jesse, and I—we all get on so well, so it doesn’t really feel like work.” For Fisher, self-care intertwines with her work as she cherishes the camaraderie and creativity that comes with acting.
Describing the new film, she emphasizes its strengths: “What I’ve heard from people that I love that have seen the movie… is that it’s just a really strong story… Also, I don’t know if you feel like this, but I don’t want to watch sad things anymore.” Fisher seeks stories that uplift, and she feels Now You See Me 3 fits that bill with its engaging narrative and vibrant cast.
She elaborates on the film’s innovative visuals: “We’ve had these amazing sets built by David Kwong, who’s like a Harvard-educated magician. He created these illusion sets, like a mirrored room, a room that turns, or a Houdini-straitjacket replica.” The excitement of these unique elements adds to her anticipation for audiences to reconnect with the franchise.
Reflecting on the allure of magic, Fisher shared personal memories of her father’s joy in performing tricks, explaining, “I love the idea of mystery. I think we live in a world where everybody’s always on the hunt for information… That’s where I think it’s a similar thing when you’re an actor.” The interplay of expectation and surprise in her art mirrors the wonder found in magic.
As she looks toward the future, Fisher acknowledges the challenges of the past year but finds positivity in her evolving identity. “I feel like creating a new identity after your divorce is so fun… All the relationships that you have in your life… get to retake center stage.” Through this self-exploration, she embraces the opportunities for personal growth and self-kindness.
Amid this transitional period, Fisher remains committed to prioritizing herself while navigating her professional and personal life.
