Introducing the Cast of ‘Hamburg Days’: A New Series About The Beatles’ Early Journey
Cameras have officially begun rolling on Hamburg Days, a new drama series exploring the formative years of The Beatles. Produced by W&B Television, Turbine Studios, and co-financed by AGC Television, the six-part series has received backing from Germany’s ZDF and has been acquired by the BBC.
The series is based on Klaus Voormann’s book of the same name. Voormann, a musician and artist, was closely associated with the band during the early 1960s, sharing a home with Ringo Starr and George Harrison, and famously designing the cover for the Beatles’ Revolver album.
Hamburg Days features an impressive cast: Rhys Mannion portrays John Lennon, while Liverpudlian singer-songwriter Ellis Murphy takes on the role of Paul McCartney. Newcomer Harvey Brett will play George Harrison, with Louis Landau as Stu Sutcliffe, Patrick Gilmore as Pete Best, and Luna Jordan as Astrid Kirchherr. Additionally, Casper von Bülow will portray Klaus Voormann, with Laura Tonke as Nielsa Kirchherr. Trystan Pütter and Max von der Groeben round out the cast.
Showrunner Christian Schwochow, known for his work on The Crown, collaborates with head writer Jamie Carragher from Succession. The series, set in the 1960s, depicts a young rock band from Liverpool that encounters Voormann and Kirchherr in Hamburg’s St. Pauli red-light district, igniting a transformation that leads to their rise as a legendary music phenomenon.
Hamburg Days was developed by Benjamin Benedict, with Schwochow directing alongside Laura Lackmann. Frank Lamm serves as the director of photography, and Voormann acts as a consultant for the production.
Executive producers include Benedict, Quirin Berg, and Max Wiedemann of W&B Television, as well as Andrew Eaton and Justin Thomson from Turbine Studios, alongside AGC’s Stuart Ford. At ZDF, Alexandra Staib, Caroline von Senden, and Sandra Dettki oversee the project. The series has received support from the German Motion Picture Fund, MOIN Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein, FilmFernsehFonds Bayern, and Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg.
AGC International is responsible for worldwide sales outside the UK and Germany.
