Inmates in Los Angeles County Jail Come Together for Holiday Mass Celebration
Female Inmates at LA County Jail Attend Christmas Day Mass
Female inmates at the Los Angeles County Jail observed Christmas Day with a special mass celebrated by LA County Sheriff Robert Luna and Archbishop Jose Gomez. The service took place Thursday morning at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department emphasized that the mass aimed to provide inmates with a chance to engage in a spiritual moment and reflect during the holiday season. This event marked the inaugural mass conducted by Sheriff Luna since the launch of the Religious and Volunteer Services Office under the Jail Chaplaincy Program, designed to offer spiritual and emotional support to both inmates and correctional staff.
"The program coordinates all religious activities within the county’s custody facilities and ensures that inmates have access to ministers of their own faith," the sheriff’s department stated.
The program encompasses a diverse array of faiths, including Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Armenian Orthodox, Protestant, Orthodox Jewish, Reform Jewish, Buddhist, Jehovah’s Witness, Christian Scientist, Latter-day Saints, and Muslim, as indicated by the sheriff’s office.
